What makes Biograd an astounding destination are its natural surroundings, proximity to National Park Kornati, Krka National Park and Nature Park Vransko Lake - an ornithological reserve, a rich game fishing ground , also of interest to canoeists and bird watchers.

Biograd is a famous destination for boaters whose destination is the Kornati archipelago. Boat races, sailing and diving schools and other nautical activities are organized throughout the year.

BIOGRAD history and culture

Year 1050. King Petar Kresimir founded a diocese in Biograd, erected a male and a female Benedictine monastery and a church of St. John. The remains of villa Rustica are preserved from the Roman period. In early 12th century, i.e. 1102 year in Biograd, Croatian – Hungarian king Koloman was crowned. In the 13th and 14th Century Biograd is governed by Cetina princes, Bribir dukes Šubic and Vrana Templars. From the 15th until the end of the 18th century, Biograd was under Venetian rule and suffered numerous casualties in the Venetian - Turkish wars.

Biograd environment is rich in antiquities from the Croatian past:documents mention churches, monasteries and castles.

In the City Museum you can see many artefacts and evidence of the turbulent past of Biograd. There are interesting archaeological collections from the prehistoric, ancient and early Croatian findings, the ship cargo from the 16 century, and many other exhibits.

From Old Croatian period there are two churches, one of which was a large, three-boat basilica. Among other sights you can see the remains of the monastery of St. John, then the church St.Anastasia with baroque altars from 1761 and two small churches from 1850 - St.Roko and St.Antonio. With all the aforementioned, in the wider area of Biograd, there are remains of an ancient aqueduct, as well as other prehistoric sites.
